This is a collection of papers on South Indian Folklore by Prof. S. Carlos. He taught folklore in the Department of Kannda at the Bangalore University until 2001. Prof. Carlos was a visiting professor at the Warsaw University, Poland from 2005 to 2008. He was the head of the Department of Tamil at the Dravidian University, Kuppam. He is also the head of the Translation Centre of the Sahitya Akademi (New Delhi) in Bengaluru. He is a fellow of the Folklore Fellows of Finland and has presented papers in International Society of Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR) seminars in various countries.
He also writes novels, literary criticism and short stories in his mother tongue, Tamil, under the pen name of Thamizhavan.
