Memorial Endowment Funds

Endowments can be created by giving Rs. 10,000 or multiples thereof. Those interested in strengthening existing funds can donate any amount of their choosing.

Contributions made by individual well-wishers have instituted the Prof. K.S. Haridas Bhatt Memorial Fund and the Padma Bhushan Komal Kothari Endowment Fund.

The first is illustrative of a fund set up in memory of a scholar or family member. The ideals that the man stood for are reflected in the way the fund is managed. Prof. K.S. Haridas Bhatt was the former director of the Regional Resource Centre(RRC), Udipi, and an award is made every year in his name to a leading folk artist of Karnataka in collaboration with the RRC. A Yakshagana puppeteer and a folk performer and literary critic have been recipients of the award so far.

The Padmabhushan Komal Kothari fund is used to organise lectures every year on the subject of ethnomusicology. Two lectures have been organised so far: Karaikudi Subramaniam spoke on the making of the Vina and Ritha Rajan on the contribution of folk tunes to classical music.
